Based on the interior of the apartment, what assumptions can you make?

One can assume that the Younger family lives in run-down
apartment. In fact, they have been living there for years. Walter is thirty-five and
they have been living there his entire life. The carpet is worn. The furniture is
wearing out. The apartment is filled with roaches. Although the apartment is worn and
tattered, the Younger family keeps it very clean.

Mama
Younger takes pride in her house keeping. Although it is clean and well kept, it is
small. Travis sleeps in the living room on the couch. It is extremely difficult with one
whole family living in the small apartment. The bathroom is down the hall, outside of
the apartment. They have to share the bathroom with the neighbors. There are no
conveniences in this apartment.

The family's inadequate living situation is
conveyed through the fact that they share a bathroom with other tenants in their
apartment house and through the fact that Travis must sleep on the sofa in the living
room.

The kitchen is so small
until one can barely turn around in it. There is no privacy for anyone. Ruth and Walter
are a married couple with no privacy. The walls are closing in on the Younger family.
That is why Mama goes out and buys a house. Finally, they will have some room and a
yard. At the apartment, Travis has to play in the streets. Now, he will have his own
room. The Youngers will finally have some peace.
