Was President Eisenhower responsive to his electorate's needs/wants?

Obviously, President Eisenhower must have been responsive
to the wants and needs of the electorate since he got reelected in 1956.  In fact,
Eisenhower won in a landslide, taking 41 of the 48 states that then existed and winning
57% of the popular vote.  This clearly indicates that Eisenhower was responsive to the
needs and wants of the electorate.

Specifically, Eisenhower
was conservative, but not overly so.  He understood that the people wanted less
government, but that they still wanted New Deal programs like Social Security.
Eisenhower responded to these needs by expanding Social Security rather than contracting
it.  At the same time, he did things like cutting taxes and reducing government controls
on the economy.  In these ways, he gave the people what they wanted and was rewarded
with reelection.
