There are many differences between the Romantics and the
Victorians. The Romantic age preceded the Victorian Age and poets like Wordsworth,
Coleridge, Blake, Shelley, Byron and Keats defined the age. This age witnessed prolific
poetry writing with the themes like description of nature, the human condition and
emotions. There were many important Victorian poets too like Tennyson, Robert Browning
and Mathew Arnold whose major theme in poetry was
religion.
The Victorian age saw the rise of prose writing
with notable writers like Charles Dickens and Thackeray who wrote about the degenerating
condition of society. Many women writers like the Bronte sisters, George Elliot and
Elizabeth Gaskell wrote using a pseudonym about the plight of women. Both the Romantics
and Victorians wrote about issues pertaining to their society.
