Explain how Scout was influenced in To Kill a Mockingbird.

Scout is influenced by many of the characters in
To Kill a Mockingbird, absorbing ideas and gaining insight from
virtually everyone she meets. Her father, Atticus, is her most important guide. He
teaches her the importance of education, tolerance and humility. Aside from lessons in
etiquette, she learns from Calpurnia about the ways of African-Americans and how people
are just people. Miss Maudie teaches Scout that a woman can be strong and forthright,
and Aunt Alexandra stresses the importance of being a lady. Even Boo Radley influences
Scout; she learns from Boo (as well as Dolphus Raymond) that people are not always what
they seem. Bob Ewell shows her how evil exists in men, and she learns from Tom Robinson
that even the most innocent of men can be punished for the crimes of
others.
